Surfbreak Impact Assessment of Aramoana Spit, Dunedin
NZ Surfbreak Protection Society commissioned eCoast to review likely impact of capital dredging to Aramoana Spit

In order to allow for larger vessels to utilize Port Otago, significant volumes of capital dredging is required. Aramoana Spit is one of 17 Nationally Significant Surfing Breaks that is protected under the NZ Coastal Policy Statement (2010). As part of the plans for capital dredging, increased disposal of dredged materials (more than 5-fold volumes based on disposal rates in recent years) in the nearshore disposal ground just offshore of The Spit. Review of the technical documents and expert evidence supporting the resource consent application and numerical modelling were undertaken to provide an expert opinion on the likely impacts on the break.
