Sediment Transport and Mangrove Management in Coromandel, New Zealand
Waikato Regional Council commissioned an ongoing mangrove management project in Coromandel, New Zealand

This project examined the effects of the illegal removal of approximately 2 hectares of mangrove forest and of ongoing management of mangrove forests. A calibrated sediment transport model was developed to investigate the effect of mangrove forests on sediment transport within in the estuary.
The investigation explored the intricate relationship between mangrove sediment retention and re-suspension and incorporated these dynamics into the sediments transport schemes within the model.
