eCoast’s consultants investigated the coastal processes related to shoreline erosion at Westshore Beach in Napier due to the breakwater of the Port of Napier. This included the collection and analysis of oceanographic field data and a numerical modelling study. The study recommended that the dredged material be placed further inshore so that it could be integrated into the naturally existing sediment recirculation route in the area. It also suggested that the dredge spoil be placed in a pattern that is at an angle to the beach in order to force a rotational effect on the incoming wave-field to reduce the magnitude of the erosive alongshore currents.
