Coastal Protection Design in Tonga

As part of an effort toward coastal protection and climate change resilience, eCoast provided engineering design for coastal protection works in Western Tongatapu.

As part of an effort toward coastal protection and climate change resilience, Tonga's Ministry of Lands, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MLECCNR) commissioned eCoast Marine Consulting and Research to provide engineering design for coastal protection work in western Tongatapu. The focus was specifically on pilot projects for Kanokupolu and 'Ahau, the most vulnerable villages, although some intervention was planned for all six villages on the Hihifo coast. Following the review of the historic and recent information, a description of the pilot construction options for Kanokupolu and, 'Ahau and Hihifo coast was detailed including justification fo the selected strategies, prioritisation of the options selected strategies, prioritisation of the options, engineering drawings and specifications, costs and schedule for completion of works for each option.
