Applications were being made to increase the number of salmon farms in the Marlborough Sounds, which is one of NZ's most biologically diverse marine environments. Caged fish farming is an intense form of aquaculture, with feed and especially waste environmental variables. In this case, the focus was on assessing and providing expert witness evidence for EPA proceedings with respect to potential impacts of salmon farms on the benthic communities.
