Bedforms and Fishing Activity: The Tasman Global Access Fibre-Optic Cable
Vodafone New Zealand commissioned eCoast to undertake an evaluation of the existing information with respect to the burial depth of the Aqualink cable.

Vodafone New Zealand commissioned eCoast Marine Consulting and Research to undertake an evaluation of the existing information with respect to the burial depth of the Aqualink cable. This information consists of the previous monitoring surveys along parts of the route (some 10%), which was undertaken after the cable was laid (as built), in 2003 and in 2010. The consent allowed for the installation and maintenance of the cable to a minimum depth of 0.6 m, with a target depth of 1.5 m.
In the 14 years since the establishment of the cable under the sea bed there have been no known incidents of entanglement with the cable along its entire length. Therefore, Vodafone sought the removal of the Aqualink cable monitoring program - this report on bedforms and fishing activity is one of a series undertaken by eCoast in order to determine cable stability.
