Beach Stabilisation Project in Mandurah, Australia
eCoast completed a project in 2011 for the City of Mandurah to combat recent erosion along their northern beaches.

Recent erosion along various sections of the northern beaches of Mandurah prompted the City of Mandurah to commission eCoast Marine Consulting and Research to investigate various stabilisation options. The considered solutions presented in the study included lengthening existing groynes, constructing additional groynes, constructing offshore breakwaters (emergent) of various sizes and distances offshore, or constructing offshore reefs (semi-emergent and submerged) of various sizes and distances offshore. These options were evaluated using empirical models for the initial assessment and numerical models as the primary analysis tool. The existing data pertinent to the site was reviewed, an inshore wave-climate was developed and verified for the inshore compartments/sub-grids for Mandurah’s northern beaches, and empirical design of the various management options was undertaken for incorporation into morphological models.
