Physical Impact of Proposed Coastal Walkway in Auckland, New Zealand

This project focused on investigating the physical impacts of a proposed coastal walkway as part of the Onehunga Foreshore Restoration Project.

This project focused on investigating the physical impacts of a proposed coastal walkway as part of the Onehunga Foreshore Restoration Project (OFRP). Review of the existing OFRP 'Coastal Report' was undertaken and the site was visited and assessed to determine any additional works considered necessary for the proposed boardwalk construction. In addition, prior review of the OFRP Coastal Report indicated that there was adequate information available in the report to determine the extreme wave events, extreme water levels (from the project datum, AVD-46 (Auckland, 1946)) and sea level rise to confirm that the proposed design height of the walkway avoids coastal walkway hazards (for a 50 year planning horizon) and the maximum forces that could be expected on the piles so as to ensure the specified pile sized and footings are adequate to withstand them.
